Despite Scotland’s progressive policies on domestic abuse and homelessness, EWA has identified a gap in their implementation. Many Homelessness and Housing officers, both statutory and within housing associations, continue to advise women experiencing domestic abuse to present as homeless, contrary to current policy, which advocates for supporting women to remain in a safe home.
Our Housing Policy Officer works with women experiencing domestic abuse to prevent homelessness and improve housing options. She provides specialist support and advocacy for women facing complex housing challenges and works to enhance policy implementation and promote best practice policies for housing providers, City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government.
